I thought of this on a lazy Saturday morning watching Nigella. The ingredients are easy and it is tasty with chocolate added! The dulce de leche is an influence from Buenos Aires where I live currently, but it is optional and makes this pudding rather sweet.
Ingredients:
500ml milk
3 eggs
100 grams of butter
1/2 bar of dark chocolate
250 ml single cream
Chocolate chips (optional)
6-8 croissant
3 tablespoons toffee spread or dulce de leche (optional)
Method:
1. Break up the croissants and butter them generously. You can add a layer of toffee or dulce de leche too.
2. Melt the chocolate, either in the microwave or over some boiling water.
3. Mix the eggs into the chocolate. Then add the cream and milk, making sure the mixture does not cool down enough to harden. Add the sugar and dissolve.
4. Fill a ceramic or glass tray of 20 by 20 cm with the croissant. Scatter over the chocolate chips. Pour over the liquid mixture and allow to soak in for 5-10 minutes.
5. Bake in a preheated oven at 190 centigrade for 20-30 minutes until the tops of the croissant are slightly browned.
